Kenneth 'Kenny' Malcolm Carter (born 28 March 1961; died May 1986) was a world class motorcycle Speedway rider and Bradford's hero. Born in Yorkshire, he rode for Newcastle Diamonds (1978), Halifax Dukes (1979-85) and Bradford Dukes (1986)
He was widely regarded as a future World Champion, already having become a World Pairs Champion with Peter Collins in 1983. He rode in the 1981, 1982 and 1983 Speedway World Championship finals, finishing fifth each time. Kenny also won the British League Riders' Championship in 1981 and 1982. He was British Champion in 1985 and 1986 and it was whilst as reigning champion, he committed suicide in May 1986. Now regarded as possibly the best ever speedway rider never to win the world title, Kenny will never be forgotten in Bradford.
